BARTON COMMENTS ON TRAGIC SHOOTING AT CONGRESSIONAL BASEBALL TEAM PRACTICE2017-06-14
Congressman Joe Barton issued the following statement on the tragic shooting at Wednesday`s Congressional baseball team practice:

As the manager of the Republican Congressional Baseball team, I am deeply saddened by this morning`s events. Members, staff, and support personal arrived around 6:30 a.m. to Simpson Field for our usual morning practice. Shortly after 7 a.m., shots were fired from a high caliber firearm. The suspect was shooting at members and staff on the field. Officers of the Capitol Police returned fire and ran towards the shooter, risking their lives while saving others. The incident lasted for approximately 10 minutes. Several people were injured, including Majority Whip Steve Scalise. The Alexandria Police along with the Capital Police secured a cease-fire, capturing the suspect.
My thoughts and prayers are with Rep. Scalise and his family, along with the others injured in this attack. My gratitude goes to the brave men and women who risked their lives to bring the shooter down.
