Friday, May 26 - Senior Care Centers, along with Family First Hospice, would like to honor all of the Veterans and their families of Navarro and surrounding counties for Memorial Day with a free BBQ lunch from 11:30 am until 1:30 pm at the Corsicana VFW on State Hwy 31. Saturday, May 27 - 4th Annual Red Brick Classic Car Show from 9 am - 2 pm, downtown Kerens on Highway 31. Awards in many categories, music, 50-50 jar, trivia, gift drawing for participants, and more. All proceeds got to the Kerens Veterans Memorial Fund.

Saturday, May 27 - Fish Fry at the KESA Building, Kerens, from 11 am - 1 pm. $10 per plate, $5 for ages 10 and under. Proceeds support the Kerens Veterans Memorial.

Monday, May 29 - The 9th Annual Memorial Day Service will be held at 1 pm at Woodland Memorial Park. Color Guards/Navarro County Sheriff Department, 21 Gun Salute, Taps. Speaker: Gerald Alexander Gray, USA Air Force Veteran.

Monday, May 29 - Memorial Day Ceremony honoring Veterans at the Kerens Veterans Memorial at 6 pm. There will be a prayer, placing of the wreath, Taps, and a flyover by The Coyote Squadron.

Saturday, June 3 - Navarro County and City of Corsicana 2017 Clean Up Day from 7 am to 1 pm at Corsicana Regional Landfill, Jester Road on East Highway 31. Bring your trash and junk to the landfill for free. This may include large appliances, furniture, entertainment equipment, agricultural containers (must be triple rinsed and punctured or crushed), and daily household garbage. Tires will not be accepted. Tire Collection Day is scheduled for September 8th. You must be a Navarro County resident. All loads must be tarped and firmly secured to trucks and trailers according to TCEQ. Assistance will be available to help unload. Volunteers will also be available to take items to the landfill for elderly or disabled residents in the immediate Corsicana area. For this assistance, call 903-654-3075 by 5 pm on Thursday, June 1st. If rained out, Clean Up Day will be moved to Saturday, June 10th.

Saturday, June 3 - The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center will kick off National Fishing and Boating Week with a day of free admission, free food and a free catfishing tournament 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All anglers submitting their catches during the catfishing tournament will be entered into an hourly prize drawing, and biggest fish awards will be presented in multiple age categories at the end of the tournament. TFFC will furnish all tackle and bait, however anglers are also free to bring their own. Employees of the Athens Wal-Mart Supercenter will serve free hot dogs, chips and drinks to hungry anglers for lunch while supplies last. Additionally, no fishing license is required anywhere in the state on Free Fishing Day, celebrated every year on the first Saturday in June. In addition to fishing, visitors can walk the wetlands trail, see a diver hand feed fish, learn about the history of fishing in the freshwater fishing museum, tour the hatchery, shop for a Father’s Day gift in the Flat Creek Bait ‘n Goods Gift Shop and watch the alligator feeding at 3:30 pm. The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center is an aquatic nature center and hatchery complex operated by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. It is located 75 miles 4 miles east of Athens on F.M. 2495.

Meals on Wheels needs your GROCERY BAGS! Please deliver plastic grocery bags to their office at 1805 N. Beaton Street between 8:30 am and 1:30 pm Monday - Friday.

Meals on Wheels Program is in need of volunteers Monday - Friday for meal deliveries. Each delivery route takes about an hour and is typically delivered between 10:30 am and 12:30 pm every day. Every day, there are kids sleeping in CPS offices, shelters and hotels due to their parents' actions and the state not having enough homes to place them in. A Blessing in Disguise is a non profit organization that provides a home for these kids. We are committed to improving the quality of life for children. Honor Flight DFW is a 501c(3) non-profit organization that is committed to flying veterans, at no cost to the veteran, round trip to Washington, DC with a one night stay, to see the WW II Memorial and other monuments in the Washington area. They will fly any veteran of a War era since WW II, but priority is for WW II and terminally ill veterans. They have a "guardian" assigned to each veteran to assist him or her during the trip and a volunteer medical staff for each flight. Honor Flight DFW pays for the cost for the veteran and all others pay their own expenses. Grandparents Raising Grandkids Support Group will meet at FBC Eureka at 8718 S Hwy 287 Eureka Tx the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. The purpose of this group is to provide support, and encouragement, as well as offer helpful and informative information with occasional speakers coming in. The Corsicana Animal Shelter is running low on dog food! The pets would love some yummy food. The shelter is in desparate need of Pedigree (adult and small breed), Kibbles N Bits Original Flavor (adult and small breed, small bites), and Purina Smart Blend dog food. Donations can be dropped off at the shelter during regular operating hours: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 12 to 6 pm, and on Saturdays from 12 until 4 pm. Please help!

Tehuacana Baptist Church in Limestone county sponsors a Gospel/Bluegrass/Country music night the second Friday of each month starting at approximately 6 pm., and goes until the last singer gives up and goes home (about 10 pm). We have an open mic, and anyone that can sing, or think they can sing or play, or just want to enjoy the music, are welcome to come and join us. CHIP and Childrens Medicaid cover regular check-ups, shots, doctor and dentist visits, hospital care, mental health services, prescriptions, and more. For each child to be enrolled, bring a copy of birth certificate, social security number, a copy of Alien Registration card if your child is not a U.S. citizen, proof of income for each family member, and proof of how much your family pays for childcare. Navigators can also assist with questions about applying for insurance in the Health Insurance Marketplace for the Affordable Care Act. Although open enrollment for 2014 Marketplace coverage is over, you may still be able to enroll if you have a life-changing circumstance, such as losing your job, having a baby or other qualifying events. Have an old cell phone or phones cluttering up their home? The Angels of Corsicana Troop Support has the answer. Just bring those old phones by their office on Bus. 45 across from the old hat factory any morning from 9-11 M-F or drop them off at Corley Funeral Home. The phones will be bundled and forwarded them to a company that refurbishes them and sends then to the troops to use.
