Thursday, November 23 - The American Legion Auxiliary, 632 N Beaton St, will be hosting their annual Thanksgiving day meal with turkey and or ham and all the trimmings. This meal can be eaten at the Legion or take out is available. Service will start at noon and be open till the food is gone. Friday, December 1 - Annual Downtown Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in the middle of Beaton Street at Collin Street from 4-7pm. Live music, ice-less skating, and free refreshments for the community to enjoy, leading up to the lighting of the 50-foot tree. After the lighting, the Parks and Recreation Department will light up the sky with fireworks. Main Street is hosting a Chocolate Walk that night to invite people into stores and enjoy libations and chocolates.
Saturday, December 2 - Navarro County Toy Run. Meet at the VFW, 4609 W. Hwy 31, Corsicana. KSU at 11 am. Enjoy a scenic ride which will end back at the VFW. There will be food, drinks, music, a 50/50 drawing, an auction, and more. Donation of one new, unwrapped toy or $10 per person. All bikes, cars, and clubs are welcome.
Saturday, December 2 - Annual Downtown Christmas Parade of Lights is at 6:30 pm. The Christmas parade includes floats, vintage cars, marching bands, the Fire and Police Departments, and thousands of spectators hoping to grab some of the candy the parade participants share. More info: 903-654-4851.
Sunday, December 3 - KESA's Annual Celebration of Tables, from 2-4 pm, at the KESA Building, downtown Kerens. Tables will be decorated for the festive Christmas season for $20 per table, decorated by you. Invite a friend and split the $20 cost. Tickets will be sold for $5 to view the tables and enjoy refreshments. Proceeds will support KESA scholarships. Meals on Wheels Program is in need of volunteers Monday - Friday for meal deliveries. Each delivery route takes about an hour and is typically delivered between 10:30 am and 12:30 pm every day. Honor Flight DFW is a 501c(3) non-profit organization that is committed to flying veterans, at no cost to the veteran, round trip to Washington, DC with a one night stay, to see the WW II Memorial and other monuments in the Washington area. They will fly any veteran of a War era since WW II, but priority is for WW II and terminally ill veterans. They have a "guardian" assigned to each veteran to assist him or her during the trip and a volunteer medical staff for each flight. Honor Flight DFW pays for the cost for the veteran and all others pay their own expenses. Grandparents Raising Grandkids Support Group will meet at FBC Eureka at 8718 S Hwy 287 Eureka Tx the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. The purpose of this group is to provide support, and encouragement, as well as offer helpful and informative information with occasional speakers coming in. The Corsicana Animal Shelter is in need of dog food, such as Pedigree (adult and small breed), Kibbles N Bits Original Flavor (adult and small breed, small bites), and Purina Smart Blend dog food. Donations can be dropped off at the shelter during regular operating hours: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 12 to 6 pm, and on Saturdays from 12 until 4 pm.
Tehuacana Baptist Church in Limestone county sponsors a Gospel/Bluegrass/Country music night the second Friday of each month starting at approximately 6 pm., and goes until the last singer gives up and goes home (about 10 pm). We have an open mic, and anyone that can sing, or think they can sing or play, or just want to enjoy the music, are welcome to come and join us. Just bring those old phones by their office on Bus. 45 across from the old hat factory any morning from 9-11 M-F or drop them off at Corley Funeral Home. The phones will be bundled and forwarded them to a company that refurbishes them and sends then to the troops to use.
